Howdy everyone! i am vitamin D deficient but I have survived the hell that is the first two months of every god forsaken year!

not only that but i got more unfinished crap for yall to look at !

Lets start on a high note:

this is my latest one! no idea if i am going to finish it or not but we are getting somewhere good with this!

I still think something just feels... off about some of the shading. like there isn't enough color to really make bits and parts pop! the lighting feels natural but it feels so sterile.

and now onto the less good looking experiments:

First attempt at the angel sketch, dumped because it didn't feel right

me experimenting with composition. i didn't feel like finishing this one, but i enjoy the colors!

i just did this cus i thought it was cute.

this is my attempt at voices of the void fan art, eventually not finished because I just got VERY frustrated with the composition and the colors and the hair....

it was originally intended to be the entire thing being a reflection in a mirror pool below, but i coulden't get the composition to feel right! augh!!!!

weird color experiment!

I realized maybe bright pink and shades of green and blue go horribly together when not used correctly. Invader zim did it why can't I????

more images of unfinished art experiments! for you!

(warning: some of these drawings are terrible)

so this practice was for making decent composition. the idea is that i basically make rough shapes out of color before making ANY lines (spoiler! it works!)

this image is absolute chaos to look at, but its essentially Hatsune miku landing on a pile of gifts

I scrapped it because it was awkwardly off-center in the not good way.

Here is attempt #2

kind of the opposite of an improvement with how ugly it looks. I eventually got frustrated and scrapped it, especially with the colors.

it was then that i decided I am not in the holiday spirit enough to draw miku so i decided to draw something inspired by the song too sweet by hozier.

improvement! Love the dress!

but i wasn't satisfied with the composition so i scrapped it once again

I think at this point I realized that I am not focusing on the sketching stage enough to make meaningful composition, so this next drawing I decided to put more time into that part....

I am quite proud of this one! the face in particular is where I got good at rendering! those eyes especially!

My only gripe: I AM NOT SATISFIED WITH THE HAIR AUUUGHH

sure the hair looks.... passable I guess. If it were on an advertisement I wouldn't think twice... but it just feels... flat? like the hair hasn't been given enough love yet.

thats the problem with it it just looks.... fine.

"you could make the hair longer and more flow-ey"

yeah but this character specifically has short hair! If i just went for the most easy option It would remove the point of challenging myself to improve!

that and the bangs just look..... off. hell the whole thing doesn't feel detailed enough like its less actual hair and more like really fluffy lego hair.

Sorry for being inactive, lately I have been focusing on school and if you guessed by the title of this post: art practice!

my ultimate goal right now is to reach professional level art with my skills. Hopefully if i get that far I should be able to write up a commission sheet as soon as I can.

if any of you would love it if i started making commissions, please comment here about it! there isn't a guarantee that it will happen, but at least I will know if people want it!

without further ado: here is some of the stuff i have been working on that never got finished or posted!

Note that some of these look like utter shit!

Witch painting. scrapped because rendering is hard and i got frustrated with such vivid colors.

background assets like trees are unfinished

scrapped because anatomy looks bad. also i did not enjoy the pose and the composition very much.

It was at this stage that I decided i really needed to focus on anatomy and composition better. I have decided to draw the same image over and over again until something felt right.

first attempt. strange anatomy and not the best composition.

Attempt #2

so this one doesn't look too bad. the anatomy is still off with the clothing but i managed to render the face pretty good.

the problem? I am struggling to render it because i fucked up my layers. everything was too disorganized and painful to shade and render.

also rendering clothes? absolute hell.

attempt #3 looks way better.

I have discovered a new method where I first make every major color section into its own layer, then shove it all into a folder and make a clipping layer on top for the shading.

THEN i just copy and paste that clipping layer onto each indevidual color section when i am done erasing all the lighting.

I was on a fucking roll here. the colors were coming together. the lighting was starting to come together

why did i stop?

I realized i am struggling VERY hard to make hair that doesn't look overly rendered.

I love myself some rendering, but i don't like that "overly rendered" look where everything looks like its made of plastic. I prefer more stylized rendering with scribbley lines and textures.

I WILL draw this character and finish it eventually. I am determined

for now i have taken a break on her to draw something else to get my mind onto other things

with that in mind here is a teaser for my CURRENT project where i am learning even better techniques with sketching and composition planning!

this might also be sent to the failed drawing graveyard. only god knows the real answer!
